For the very first time, Postbank EasyTrade.AG will – at the CeBIT – be presenting the new Postbank direct brokerage to a broader audience. In cooperation with its software partner, Netlife, Postbank will offer visitors insight into the modern form of stocks and shares dealing via the Internet or by telephone. Currently, the bank is still piloting the brokerage business with orders placed by Postbank employees. However, this year – in parallel to the floatation of Deutsche Post – Postbank plans to extend these services to its customers. Since July at the latest, customers will be able to purchase and sell stocks and shares, manage their portfolios, access share prices and download online charts. The bank has planned to acquire 250,000 customers in its first full business year and the prerequisites for Postbank becoming one of the leading providers in Germany are positive: Postbank is one of the market leaders in home-banking. 650,000 customers currently conduct their financial business with Postbank using T-Online and the Internet, and a further 1.5 million customers manage their accounts by telephone.
New technology for 24-hour availability
Within its direct brokerage division, Postbank plans to offer its customers its reliable standard of unlimited availability. To this end, it will be using technology developed especially for this purpose by Netlife, a technology based on an application server with specialist and business logic. It operates in conjunction with a shadow database and comprises the various back-office systems such as master data storage and share processing. It enables customers to place orders around the clock, in other words even when the stock exchange has closed.
Postbank focuses on e-Commerce and Electronic Banking
Within the context of the Deutsche Post Group, Postbank will in future focus more strongly on e-Commerce. It has bundled a comprehensive packages for corporate clients, comprising, for example, a stationary Internet portal as well as suitable systems for safe payment within the Worldwide Web. In cooperation with the respective business division of the Deutsche Post Group, product and services providers will be able to compile entire fulfilment packages on an individual basis, including transport and logistics services. Furthermore, the bank will present “Webtransfer”, a combined logistics and trust product, which will solve the problems associated with purchasing particularly highly priced goods via the Internet.
Furthermore, Postbank will – with the “online-capable software and music station” – be presenting a new multimedia kiosk system at the CeBit. Visitors to the trade fair will be able to have their individual software wishes or hits burned onto a CD – free of charge. And it is with this “local market place” that Postbank will test the so-called “music telegram” shortly after the computer trade fair. Customers will then have the opportunity to compile their favourite CDs with a personal greeting at selected Deutsche Post branches. These will then be forwarded by express mail to the respective recipient.
Postbank will also be presenting electronic banking solutions, such as Financial EDIFACT, Postbank Multi Cash and International Cash Management. These products offer customers a simplified and optimised payment transaction processing, not only in Germany, but also on an international level.
