Deutsche Postbank AG will take over 850 branches from Deutsche Post AG as planned on January 1, 2006. This was resolved by the supervisory bodies of both companies on Tuesday in Bonn.

On November 29 2005, the Deutsche Postbank AG Supervisory Board appointed Hans-Peter Schmid to the Management Board of the Bank. He assumes responsibility for over-the-counter sales in Retail Banking, which had been headed by Lothar Rogg since 2002. Rogg is to concentrate on the branch organization of the Deutsche Post. The Postbank Supervisory Board thanked Rogg for his very successful work.

The way is cleared for the purchase of BHW-Holding AG. Deutsche Postbank AG will acquire the 74.6 percent stake in the Hameln-based company currently held by majority shareholders Beteiligungsgesellschaft der Gewerkschaften AG (BGAG) and Deutscher Beamtenwirtschaftsbund (BWB). The acquisition of private pensions and insurance specialist BHW will make Postbank Germany’s leading financial service provider for private customers.
Postbank has transferred the management of its 17 million savings accounts to the new SAP “Deposit Management” program. The migration went without a hitch.
Deutsche Post and Postbank are planning for Postbank to take over and manage some 850 retail outlets with around 9,500 employees from the beginning of next year.

Postbank is extending its credit card offering with the launch of the Postbank VISA photo card. The special feature of this credit card is that it can be personalized – using any photograph.

Postbank wants to put a stop to Internet fraud. In recent months, wave after wave of criminals have tried to obtain transaction numbers (TAN) from those doing online banking. A stop is to be put to this. As the first large bank, Postbank is introducing the so-called indexed transaction number (iTAN).

In the first six months of 2005, Deutsche Postbank AG continued its successful course. At €338 million, profit before tax was 17% up on the first half of the previous year. The result was also positive in a quarterly comparison. Against the strong first quarter, Postbank improved profit before tax by 4.8%, on a year-on-year basis by as much as 18.5%.

In the first quarter of 2005, Deutsche Postbank AG continued its success story. Bonn-based Postbank increased its profit before tax to €165 million, a year-on-year increase of 15.4%. Pre-tax return on equity rose by 2.1 percentage points to 13.8%, while the cost/income ratio improved year-on-year from 70.6% to 69.1%. The Postbank share increased by 9.2% in the first three months alone.

Deutsche Postbank AG has acquired a share package in BHW Holding AG from the ERGO Insurance Group. Postbank now holds 9.2% of shares in the company. The Bonn-based bank announced this on Monday as part of its Accounting Press Conference.

In 2004, Deutsche Postbank AG again generated a record result. On Monday, it announced the best profit before tax in its history on the basis of the provisional figures, €624 million, an improvement of 25.6%.
