Deutsche Postbank AG has been authorized to issue Pfandbrief mortgage bonds with immediate effect. A corresponding license was granted by the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) on December 19. The rating agencies Fitch Ratings, Moody’s and Standard and Poor’s gave the highest rating of “AAA” to Postbank’s current covering assets for the issue of Hypothekenpfandbriefs in the amount of €1.8 billion. This means that Postbank can offer Pfandbriefs of this quality right from the start.

Deutsche Postbank AG and the HUK-COBURG insurance group have agreed a long-term sales partnership. From October 2007, Postbank will sell HUK-COBURG car, liability and property insurance policies exclusively via its sales channels. Conversely, HUK-COBURG will exclusively offer retail banking products from Postbank such as current accounts via its sales channels.

Since the beginning of the year, all business activities have been concentrated at Deutsche Postbank International S.A. (PBI). Originally there was a branch of the German parent company. This was closed in May and its banking activities transferred to PBI.

Business with customers grew in almost all areas, resulting in the Bonn-based bank achieving the best result in its history in 2006: pre-tax profits were up 31.6 percent on the figure for the previous year at €941 million.

In 2006, Postbank achieved the best results in its history: pre-tax profits totaled €941 million, up 31.6 percent on the previous year (the comparative figures for 2005 are pro forma figures including theoretical amounts for BHW and the Deutsche Post retail outlets). The Bank’s other key figures are also extremely encouraging. The cost/income ratio improved from 75.0 percent to 68.3 percent, while the ratio for the traditional banking business, i.e. excluding transaction banking, fell by 6.8 percent to 66.7 percent. Return on equity before taxes increased by 4.0 percent to 18.9 percent.

This year DSL Bank will be providing private housing loans backed with KfW funds. To this end Deutsche Postbank AG, of which DSL Bank is a division, and KfW Bankengruppe signed their first global housing loan agreement for EUR 700 million in Frankfurt today.
