A new credit card underlines Postbank’s soccer connection as the national sponsor of the FIFA 2006 World Cup

The soccer event of the year is just around the corner and enthusiasm for the “most important triviality in the world” is growing. Postbank is launching a new credit card on the market in May for all soccer fans: the Postbank Fußball MasterCard. Not only does it offer all the advantages of a MasterCard, but it also boasts a number of extras for soccer fans and soccer clubs.

“Our philosophy is very similar to that of soccer”, said Dr. Wolfgang Klein, Private Customers Director of the Bonn-based bank. With our motto ‘simple and convenient', we are looking for the direct route to the goal. The Postbank Fußball MasterCard provides another opportunity for us to appeal to our customers on an emotional level through soccer”, said Klein. The old German soccer adage of “stick the round ball between the rectangular thing” has a double meaning for Postbank: with the new Postbank Fußball MasterCard, a “rounded thing” is created from the “rectangular thing”.

The reason being: holders of the Postbank Fußball MasterCard not only receive a credit card, which is popular at over 22 million retailers worldwide, they can also quickly recoup the annual fee of EUR 25. Thanks to the unique supplementary offers: Concessions and credit notes for example at sports equipment mail order company Sport-Thieme and the indoor football specialist Cageball, as well as reimbursement of EUR 36 per year on conclusion of a “Kicker” annual subscription.

On request, the cardholder receives a sports and spectator accident insurance for an additional charge of EUR 2 on top of the annual fee. And: the “rectangular thing”, of course, also offers direct opportunities to see “the last round”: tickets for entry to UEFA Euro 2004, FIFA 2006 World Cup and to Champions League games are being given away. Or a meeting with a soccer star, one of many priceless moments.

Also with a club logo The some seven million members of the 27,000 soccer clubs benefit two-fold from the Postbank Fußball MasterCard. They can turn the Postbank Fußball MasterCard into their personal club card. For just EUR 2.50 per year, Postbank prints the logo and the signature of the member club of the cardholder.

Postbank has already come up with several ideas to heighten the soccer experience for customers in recent months: an investment fund that invests in companies that will profit from the global soccer fever and “Bonus Volltreffer”, a fixed-deposit product that offers a bonus in addition to the basic interest rate if the national team is successful in Portugal.
