iPostbank: Showing the way to the next cashpoint
Free app shows on the iPhone the way to ATMs, branches and Shell stations with cash service - including account management
We've all been there before: You're in a new city and need cash, but you don't want to pay a fee for withdrawing your money. Now the free “iPostbank” application allows all customers to quickly find their nearest Postbank or Cash Group ATM, as well as the several thousand branches of Postbank and Deutsche Post. The “iPostbank” database also displays the nearest Shell station offering the new Postbank cash service. This cash locator function is supplemented by mobile account management.
“With iPostbank, we are systematically pursuing our strategy of turning the cellphone into a mobile bank branch,” commented Dr. Michael Meyer, member of Postbank's Board of Management. “More than 100,000 customers appreciate Postbank's pioneering role in the field of mobile banking. Our focus on mobile devices at an early stage means that we are now able to draw upon many years of experience and customer feedback in developing new mobile banking services.”
Searches are performed via the interactive Google Maps function using the iPhone look and feel. The device uses GPS (Global Positioning System) to automatically determine the customer's location and show the five nearest sources of cash that will not charge for withdrawals. Integrated route planning means that finding the way is no problem. Addresses can be entered manually for searches in different cities, and the Internet connection means that iPostbank always has the most up-to-date location information. Tapping a hit on the map brings up additional information, such as branch opening times and whether the location offers bank statement printers or Postbank advisory services. One particular benefit for travel planning is that users can store search results in their favorites while still at home and simply call them up again upon arrival.
Needless to say, the free “iPostbank” application also includes mobile account management, allowing users to easily check the balance on their account before withdrawing cash. Menu navigation is the same as for browser-based iBanking, which customers have been using frequently since 2007. Around half of all mobile banking transactions at Postbank are already made using the iPhone, with Nokia, HTC, Sony Ericsson and Blackberry devices accounting for the rest.
Standard protection such as virus scanners, firewalls and operating system updates serve to guarantee secure banking transactions via the iPhone. Apple makes this easy by automatically searching for new firmware every time an iPhone is synchronized with the user's home PC.
